These are all CJS bikes (in random order...)
This makes CJSidecar bike #2 for Ross Kowalski. The effect from a well thought-out paint scheme is nicely illustrated here. This is among my favorite CJs... so far.
Introducing Jamie McDonald

"In February I became the proud owner of my first CJ, a military-style CJ750 ordered from Shao at CJSidecar. The bike was just as I had expected and looks great! Right out of the box it started second kick and has been running well since! On the unveiling I had generated a small crowd of passers-by eager to see my new toy. Since then I've had more attention than I know what to do with. Thumbs-up, shouts and photographs happen multiple times every day (especially with my dog in the sidecar) and I've even had people following me home to talk about the bike! It's been a blast and I've only just started. Thanks to Shao and everyone who's helped me get going with my CJ! I think it's the best thing I've done!"

Pictures from Tony Salvatore in Massachusetts

One of New England's greatest claims to fame is its beautiful fall foliage. Leaf peepers flock to the region every autumn. What better way is there to experience it than from the saddle of a CJ?
From Tony Salvatore

My Solo M1M got delivered yesterday. CJU and the Yahoo! board really helped me a lot in finding a dealer I could trust AND would do quality work. Shao at CJSidecar did a great job. Here a few pics for CJU. Will send some better ones once I get the bike cleaned up. I live in Webster, Massachusetts."

From Fred Balanay in San Jose, California:

"I decided to import a CJ from China through Shao Yiqi. On October 19 I received notice that my CJ had arrived at the Port of Los Angeles. Unfortunately the port was backlogged and the ship grounded until the dock can unload their cargo. I'm now expecting to pick it up mid-November. I hope to send you more photos as soon as I'm able.

Any advice you have about importing and dealing with Customs in the US is greatly appreciated! My bike is more than 25 years old. I think I have all the paperwork. Because of its age, I don't think EPA and DOT will be an issue. In California, I haven't heard anything more than that. Wish me luck when that day comes.

Attached are five photos of my bike from Shao. As you can see it is an M 6V made in 1972. I ordered two different style gas tanks and two different color leather seats. The black seat (not shown) is the same style as the red one. Also two leather saddle bags. I thought they look cool. My motor is polished. I was inspired to polish my motor after seeing the vintage bikes at the Guggenheim motorcycle show in Las Vegas back in the fall of 2001. It just adds to the look. I can't wait to ride it around town in San Jose as well as to some local bike rallies. So far, I haven't seen anyone with a CJ locally. I hope to find more CJ enthusiast so we can do some rallies together.

I'll keep you posted as things progress with my bike. For now, I will keep Changing away on CJU and the Yahoo chat line."

From Ross Kowalski:

"A TIG-welded pad to fix a leaky tank.  I dare say there is enough weld on there!  A friend of mine Shingo Furakawa did the welding as I am WAY out of practice on welding thin Chinese deep drawn metal to 4mm round stock! "

From Ross Kowalski:

"I am finally ready to order my [second] Chang.  I started thinking that I really like the retro aspect of these things and came up with another color scheme for the bike.

I am leaning towards the red and black one now."

[Excellent choice!]
James Quinn's M1M. (That looks like a Guzzi in the background!)
From Ross Kowalski:

"Couldn't get much better than this. Went riding with the wife and our dog on a beautiful fall day in New England. Sue was the monkey in the morning session and I was the monkey in the afternoon session.

For lunch we drank pumpkin beer (really, it's not bad) and made an office chair from the unused CJ seat from the bike."
Ross Kowalski tells me that his wife Sue is the actual owner of the Kowalski Chang. He also says that recently she's more or less assumed full control of the bike. Therefore...
...Ross composed this rendering that he'll use to spec out his next bike from CJS, an excellent idea. Of course there's also the notion of having two CJ enthusiasts under one same roof. That sounds to me like an ideal marriage.
And speaking of Ross K., feast your eyes on these tank badges I got from him. They're utterly terrific! The tough choice is which bike to put them on.
Ross Kowalski got his bike from CJS in Beijing and then, after some minor hassles with the Registry of Motor Vehicles in his home state of Massachusetts, he's now in the saddle.
From Jeff Pierce, this handsome, silver M1M solo.
Also from Jeff Pierce, an example of Jim Bryant's pan seat on Jeff's bike. Not only does it look great but it's much better for long rides than the original CJ seat.

Joe Martin visits Xiaogang Ji in Plano, Texas. (He also owns a bike from CJS.) This was a first for Joe to see two CJs together. John Hosier in Dallas and Joe are attempting to get together and take some pictures as well. They have three CJS bikes in north Texas and a fourth in Allen. Joe hopes to get all four together for pictures.
From Joe Martin:

"My name is Joe from Allen, Texas. I recently received my CJ750 from Shao just under a month ago. Fred Balanay in California and John Hosier in Dallas have been instrumental in helping me through the entire process of buying a bike overseas and maintaining the CJs. Fred suggested I contact you to post pictures and stories about my experiences so far. I have a few stories and maybe able to help others along the way. I'm sending a few pictures of my bike for you to take a gander at.

By the way, I am very pleased so far with what I have bought from Shao. I do have some mechanical ability and have worked on my own aircooled VWs for over ten years, so this is very similar."
From Jeff Pierce:

"Just finished installing many carriage bolts (thanks for the tip Dan—they look sublime) an ammo can, taillights (again, following Dan's lead—gracias) a modern battery in the trunk, sidecar handlebars, new mirrors and new controls... not to mention a little nose art on the tank (in honor of my wife, a Chicago native.) Cheers!"
From Jeff Pierce:

"So I finally had the time to do the valves, points, timing and carbs on my OHV and the thing runs like a friggin' top. I'm so glad I went with Shao, he's as stand up a guy as you could ask for. All the best, JP"

From Jeff Pierce:

"Shao has shipped my fantasy Chang. I've got a garage full of extras which I'll be hanging on it. Once it's all done up I'll send more pics. But here she is naked and packed with spare parts. I love my solo Chang! Shao did and outstanding job, starts on one kick, runs like a beautiful little tank. I'll send some shots of it over the next few days."
Jeff Pierce sent these pictures of his new solo, finished and ready to be shipped! He says Shao did a fine job building this bike and it certainly looks that way in these pictures. I especially like the black rims and spokes. I think they give the bike a really vintage look. There are plenty of other neat things on this bike such as the saddle bags, frame/mounted tool box, tool box tank, lowered front fender and an excellent color scheme. This thing is gorgeous.
Jeff Pierce has two bikes under construction by Shao at CJS in Beijing. One is an OHV sidecar rig and this one is a 12V sidevalve. It has rear fender brackets similar to early BMWs.
"My name is Steve Jones and I have been the owner of a CJ750 since August, 2005. I live in Courtenay, BC, Canada. My bike was built by Shao Yiqi and I am very pleased with the job that his company has done. Miin Leong was also a very helpful person who has supplied some very good advice."

It was just a matter of time before WWII B-29 nose art turned up on Jeff Pierce's amazing CJ!

Introducing Bomber Betty!

Jeff Pierce's CJ is utterly amazing.
"Here she is—my 'CJ Joe'"
"I just finished outfitting her with 3.5 gallon Fat Bob tanks...
...Indian mirrors, a Triumph headlight, panhead horn and a cat's-eye dash with all the electrics re-routed through it. (And she runs like a top.)
Yes sir, that's my baby."
From Jeff Pierce:

"Stripped down, but I like it!" (Stripped?)

From Jeff Pierce:

"Here's the latest of my Silver Machine. I just did the brake light, carriage bolts and reflector. Shao Yi Qi built me a great pair of machines."
From Jeff Pierce:

"I just got my OHV sidecar from Shao and dressed it up. Let me be absolutely clear—this is in no way intended to be a 'replica' of anything. (If it's a replica of anything it's a replica of what might have been an accessory to a 1965 era GI Joe doll.) It's solely for fun and so far everyone (and I mean everyone) who has seen it has said their own version of "WOW! That's a very cool bike." A guy on a Harley made a U-turn and was absolutley full of very positive envy. So there it is, my dream machine. Every time I look at it it makes me smile. Now to tune her up, Kreem-Coat the tank and get her licensed. Thanks to Shao! He's the best!"
From James Quinn in California, some CJS bikes that he and his friend Dave and brother John are importing. James tells me that Fred Balanay was a big help throughout the project.
Bill Anderson in Seattle purchased this fleet of OHVs from CJS. You can expect to see some of them offered on eBay in the not-too-distant future. Bill plans to order a bunch of SVs next!

And this is Andy Krupp's new M1 from Shao Yiqi and CJ Sidecar in Beijing.
These photos were taken in China as the bike was being prepared for shipment.
Do these images look familiar? (If not, take a look at Alex's page.)
A few spare items to keep Andy on the road...
Loadin' it up.
This is a Chinese registration for Andy's bike. The enlarged image shows all three pages.
