Voltage
regulator: Standard
Motor Products (SMP) VR124. It's electronic and works
very well. It will save the alternator blowing out if the
regulator fails. They cost around $24. The black wire
goes to ground and the other two connect to the leads for
the stock regulator. This is a replacement for Bosch
units used in early 1970s BMWs, VW bus and a few other
German cars. It provides a steady 14.1 volts at the
battery. Don't leave home without it! (Ray Costa, Pop's
Cycle, Inc.)
Voltage
regulator: WELLS VR650
at AutoZone, $29. It's for a 1973 BMW 2002. (Ross
Kowalski)
Solid state voltage regulator similar to the one above:
Niehoff WA709 for 1974-6 Porsche 911 & 914, 1970-1
Audi 100 or 1972-4 VW 411 & 412. Available at
Checkers for $41.
Plugs: NGK BPR5HS
From David
Olesen:
"For those who have the original turn indicator
light socket with the 12V 10/5 watt bulbs, the 7225 (21/4
watt) European bulb will work fine... after filing off
the upper post. It will still stay in with one post as
long as the fit is snug. All four bulbs should be the
same, so replace them all. It's also nice to have the
brighter turn indicator for those blind auto drivers.
They can be found on the shelf at Checker for $2.50 and
should also be at Autozone, but may need to be a special
order."
